Foundations: Skill Building
Basic Office Skills

This three-week package is designed to enable student to gain an entry level understanding of the computer and its functionality. These classes introduce the computer “novice” to some basic elements of typing, basic business math, and using the elements of the computer (mouse, Windows environment, etc.) and collectively, these courses prepare the student for Career Choices’ programs and additional individual classes.

Students will be given an assessment exam to determine preparedness for other Career Choices programs after these classes are successfully completed. This program includes some lab and instructor-led courses.

Prerequisites: Below 70% on “Fundamentals Assessment Exam”
Cost: $650 (includes all textbooks, course materials and one-to-one instruction.

Typing/Keyboarding (Lab Course)
30 hours

Students are introduced to the basic functions of the keyboard, proper hand placement, and techniques for touch typing and developing speed and accuracy on computers.

Computers - Introduction to Computers
3-hour Instructor-led session
A three-hour instructor-taught introduction to using computers. Information covered includes topics from basic turning on and off computers to file and folder management. This is a great class for a student with little or no prior computer experience.

Computers - Introduction to Windows
2-hour Instructor-led session
Computer-based training designed to introduce students to the Microsoft Windows operating system. The student not only learns to maneuver through Windows operating system, but learns the terminology to help them understand subsequent instruction in computer applications.

Non-Computer Course Descriptions
Computers - Grammar
20-hour Instructor-led session

This course is designed to help students write clearly and correctly by improving their understanding of grammar and punctuation. The course covers the elements of grammar and punctuation that many find troublesome including: how to write correct sentences; how to use verbs, pronouns, and articles correctly; when and how to use commas and other punctuation marks; and how to distinguish between commonly confused words.

Basic Business Math
15-hour

This course is designed to refresh basic business math skills. It is an excellent tool for enhancing skills in general business mathematical calculations.
