Novice Courses

For the individual that has not had any computer training, Career Choices offers introductory courses to orientate the student to the computer, its components and functionality. These are instructor-led courses that offer the student the foundation to move forward.

Computers - Introduction to Computers

3-hour Instructor-led session
A three-hour instructor-taught introduction to using computers. Information covered includes topics from basic turning on and off computers to file and folder management. This is a great class for a student with little or no prior computer experience.

Computers - Introduction to Windows

2-hour Instructor-led session
Computer-based training designed to introduce students to the Microsoft Windows operating system. The student not only learns to maneuver through Windows operating system, but learns the terminology to help them understand subsequent instruction in computer applications.

Worldwide Web (Internet)

4-hour Instructor-Led session
Students will learn to navigate and understand the Internet, Worldwide Web. Students will gain an understanding of conducting basic searches on the internet, creating security levels for websites and its applications in the real world business setting.

Lab/Simulation Courses
Students are also able to learn or improve their typing performance in our Lab/Simulation Courses. These courses are directly to the Novice or intermediate who need to improve typing, data entry or Ten-key skills. Our students are assessed to determine their current skills and monitored very closely to ensure positive results. Students will receive instruction on proper form and applications to improve speed and accuracy.

Typing/Keyboarding (Lab Course)
$100– 15 hours / $200– 30 hours
Students are introduced to the basic functions of the keyboard, proper hand placement, and techniques for touch typing and developing speed and accuracy on computers. The student will learn or enhance their typing or keying skills.

Calculator Simulation (Lab Course)
$100– 15 hours / $200– 30 hours
Students learn how to use the keyboard numeric pad to solve business problems. Study also includes learning the keypad by touch. This course is designed to teach and improve speed and accuracy on the keyboard calculator.

Ten-Key
$250
30-hour Independent Study /Instructor Supervision
Students learn how to process business financial documents, compile requested data, and solve practical business problems through the use of a 10-key calculator. Students will process bank reconciliation statements, invoices, daily sales receipts and other business functions manually to gain a full understanding of business problems without the use of a computer. This is an excellent precursor to
QuickBooks Pro courses, although not a prerequisite.

Data Entry (Lab Course)

18-hour Independent Study (Instructor Supervision)
Students learn data entry for various industry needs through a simulation course. The student will learn the process of entering key data elements into a database. This course improves accuracy and enhances data entry speed. This is an excellent course for preparing for data entry positions!
